Construction work has begun on a new £10 million swimming pool for Wakefield, West Yorkshire.
Called Wakefield ONE, the new pool in Wakefield city centre will include a six-lane 25m pool and 13m x 7m learner pool, a fitness centre, a 200-seater viewing area and a café, and is scheduled to open in the summer of 2012 in time for the Olympic Games.
The project will use Yorkshire-based Sypro Management’s NEC contract management system, Sypro, which is designed to enhance contract compliance, improve transparency and assist in “focused delivery”.
The new pool replaces the Sun Lane Baths, which were closed in 2006 when they were found to be in danger of collapse.
