On 30 January, the Belgian Federation of Swimming Pool and Wellness Professionals organised the second edition of The Night of the Pools, an event that has become an essential gathering for industry professionals. Once again, the evening was a great success, bringing together over 200 professionals from the pool and wellness sector at Brussels Kart.

A diverse and comprehensive programme: workshops addressing key challenges for pool professionals

The event successfully balanced informative content with moments of conviviality. Five workshops allowed participants to delve into key topics related to their industry:

  • The first workshop, led by Jan Van Wynsberghe (Vanbreda Risk & Benefits), focused on insurance for pool builders. Special attention was given to "All Risks Construction" insurance, which protects ongoing construction projects from various incidents. Additionally, other essential insurances, such as decennial liability and post-delivery liability (DINC), were discussed, providing better protection against construction defects.
  • Optimising labour costs was at the heart of the second workshop, led by EasyPartners. Sébastien Lorent presented strategies to help companies in the sector reduce salary costs, notably through exemption from professional withholding tax, a fiscal mechanism that generates a significant cash flow advantage. Participants also learned about hiring incentives, such as SESAM, Activa, and Impulsion, which help lower expenses while strengthening team stability.
  • The third workshop, led by Athénaïs Brouwers from the Poison Control Centre, addressed safety and regulations concerning pool maintenance products. The risks associated with chlorinated products and other treatment agents were illustrated through real-life cases of accidental intoxication. A particular focus was placed on best practices for storage, handling, and dosing, as well as on labelling and classification of hazardous substances. This session helped professionals develop essential safety reflexes to prevent accidents.
  • The fourth workshop, led by Cibor, focused on detecting and managing water leaks. The team detailed its systematic approach, which is based on specialised techniques enabling quick and precise leak detection while limiting invasive interventions. By providing detailed reports and tailored solutions, Cibor works closely with pool builders to optimise diagnostics and waterproofing problem resolution. The presentation concluded with real-life case studies, illustrating the challenges encountered in various types of installations, from residential pools to large-scale aquatic facilities.
  • Finally, the session concluded with a workshop on urban and environmental regulations in Flanders, presented by Griet Goossens (Embuild Vlaanderen). Participants were introduced to the latest legislative developments regarding permits, exemptions for uncovered pools up to 80 m², and restrictions in protected areas. Special attention was given to new groundwater management rules, which now impose strict obligations for handling potentially contaminated water. The session also explored the impact of the "Verzameldecreet Omgeving" and future changes to environmental permit procedures.

Through these discussions, participants gained valuable insights and left with practical knowledge they could immediately apply in their daily operations.

Bavo Nachtergaele and Steffert Vanneste highlight the role and actions of the FBP

The President of the Belgian Federation of Swimming Pool and Wellness Professionals, Bavo Nachtergaele, alongside Vice-President Steffert Vanneste, welcomed participants to this second edition of The Night of the Pools, reminding them of the support and opportunities the Federation provides.

"We are here to support, connect, and strengthen our sector. We do this through various initiatives, including networking opportunities--such as tonight's karting event--as well as numerous professional gatherings. For instance, on 18 March, we will hold our General Assembly, where we will work together to find solutions to the challenges facing our industry."

During the Board of Directors meeting, discussions cover crucial issues such as permit regulations in Flanders and the ongoing study on pool water consumption. "We also place great emphasis on training. This is why the Federation has been actively involved in the launch of the 'Pool Technician' training programme at IFAPME. And of course, more events are planned for this year. Many of you are already familiar with the 'Soirée des Belges', organised at major international trade shows. This year, the Federation will be a special guest at the Aquanale trade fair in Cologne this October. We are preparing something very special for you. Thanks to your involvement and cooperation, we can continue to grow and innovate as an industry. Thank you all for your commitment!"

Bavo Nachtergaele also warmly thanked the partners, without whom this event would not have been possible, as well as the many professionals who attended in large numbers and the new members who recently joined the Federation.

He reiterated the importance of coming together, sharing experiences, and strengthening each other to represent the industry's interests and build a solid future.

Networking and innovation

Beyond the workshops, The Night of the Pools was an exceptional networking opportunity. The largest hall at Brussels Kart was transformed into a dynamic exchange hub, where pool professionals and distributors engaged in discussions with partners over a generously stocked buffet. The event was a great platform for new business contacts, experience sharing, and industry innovation discovery.

The karting competition

As in the first edition, the evening ended with an exciting karting race! 100 drivers took to the track, all vying for a spot on the podium. After a fiercely competitive race, Antoine Blairvacq (Tahiti Piscines) claimed victory for the second consecutive year, followed by Tobias Gillet (KV Zwembaden) in second place and Dimitri Frenay (Artec Piscines) in third place. These outstanding performances set the stage for an intense rematch next year!
