An open-air pool in Cornwall is due to close unless people use it more this summer. Hayle Outdoor Pool has previously received an annual grant of £23,000 from Cornwall Council towards the cost of running the facility.
However, this figure has been reduced to £8000 for 2012 and Hayle Town Council, which owns and operates the pool, has been told there will be no financial support in 2013 as a result of cost-saving measures.
Hayle Town Clerk Ellie Giggal has said people in the town must use the pool regularly if they want it to stay open.
“The pool is very significant in terms of the contribution it makes to the opportunities to undertake sport and exercise in the town,” she says. “Hayle does not have the benefit of any other council-supported sports facilities, and the loss of the pool would be a severe blow.”
