The British and Irish Spa and Hot Tub Association (BISHTA) is delighted to announce the appointment of Bernard Bell-McManus as the new Chair of the BISHTA Committee. Until recently, Bernard has been the Vice Chair of the PIP Committee, and while stepping away from this role, he will remain an active PIP Committee member and BSPF Junior Vice President.

Promoting standards, water quality, and knowledge sharing

Bernard joined the wet leisure industry in 2018 and has since worked in a variety of roles across the sector, gaining invaluable experience and knowledge from his positions and the many respected industry professionals that he has had the privilege of working alongside.

In 2023, Bernard joined ITS Europe, where his role has allowed him to become increasingly involved with the wider industry through trade associations, committees, events, and technical initiatives. This involvement has given Bernard a broader understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing our sector, while also allowing him to contribute to projects that support its continued growth.

Commenting on his appointment, Bernard said:
"I am honoured with the privilege of becoming BISHTA Chair. I am passionate about promoting high standards, education, and best practice throughout the industry, particularly in the areas of water quality and water hygiene. Whether working with members or non-members, I strongly believe that raising awareness and sharing knowledge benefits the entire sector and helps ensure a positive future for the wet leisure industry."

Bernard succeeds Dorian Davies, whom BISHTA wishes to thank for his ongoing dedicated service. Dorian will continue to be an active member of the BISHTA Committee while focusing on his most recently acquired role as BSPF President, through which Dorian's unwavering commitment and executive stewardship remain central to our success within the wider wet leisure industry.

Under Bernard's leadership, BISHTA will continue to uphold its core purpose as the leading authority in promoting safe, high-quality standards across the spa and hot tub industry in the UK and Ireland. Its mission is to foster a safer, more informed marketplace where quality, compliance, and consumer wellbeing are always prioritised.

BISHTA focuses on raising awareness of water safety, professional best practice, and responsible installation, ensuring that both businesses and consumers understand how to operate and maintain hot tubs and spas safely. Through training, guidance, and strict membership requirements, BISHTA works to protect customers, support reputable suppliers, and uphold consistent industry standards.
