The GAROfiltre® filter media, marketed by Gaches Chimie, has been a great success with both public swimming pools and individuals, according to the company.
Manufactured from recycled glass bottles, it is processed into polished treated granules that replace sand in sand filters, while claiming the same advantages of health, safety, economy and passive maintenance.
It also claims other beneficial properties in terms of pool filtration. The clarity of the water is improved as sand filters only around 40-50 microns, whereas with GAROfiltre® it goes down to approximately 10-15 microns.
The surface of GAROfiltre® is said to prevent biofilm and so on greatly reduces clogging of the filter, while the smooth surface of the glass prevents from limestone deposit. All this, significantly decreases the volume of water required for backwashing (longer intervals and less time required), and the energy consumptions ( less electricity needed to maintain a constant flow. Also, less backwashes means less water to be re-heated).
Finally, less chemical products (chlorine, bactericides, algicides, fungicides, etc.) are used, as less recycled water needs to be treated. GAROfiltre® is a French efficient and eco-friendly filter media as it is fully recycled and fully recyclable.
