Fluidra announced that in support of the International Day of Climate Action, which takes place October 24, the company pledges to plant a tree for every variable-speed pump, a more efficient alternative to traditional pumps, sold globally during the week of October 24-28.

The initiative is intended to put focus on a simple step pool professionals and homeowners can take to help reduce the impact of a pool on the environment. While many products can help increase a pool's sustainability, such as pool covers; salt and mineral sanitizers; solar and electric heating; and LED lighting, the company has chosen to highlight variable-speed pumps because, on average, they offer 60% greater efficiency when compared to traditional single-speed pumps.

In 2020, Fluidra announced its Responsibility Blueprint, which outlines its environmental, social and governance goals that will guide the company as it increasingly incorporates environmentally and socially responsible practices in the way it conducts its business around the world. This tree-planting project, the first of many offsetting actions that the company will take in the future, is being launched in the spirit of this plan and the company will focus the resulting plantings to areas in need of reforestation in the global markets it operates within.

"Climate change is an issue that affects us all, both in our private and professional lives. Because of this, we are playing our part by finding ways to help increase the sustainability of pools as well as in the business practices we implement as a company," said Eloi Planes, Executive President at Fluidra. "Every gesture counts when it comes to taking care of the environment, and swapping out a traditional pool pump with a variable-speed pump is one of the simplest ways to increase the overall energy efficiency of a pool."
